For dedicated support and service to cooperatives and their unique business principles, long-time electric cooperative champion Tim Williams was named a 2025 Distinguished Cooperator by the Georgia Cooperative Council.
“Tim Williams has embodied the cooperative spirit over his 40-plus years of service at GreyStone Power,” said Gary Miller, president/CEO of GreyStone Power. “During that time, Tim has diligently worked to make life better in the communities GreyStone Power serves through open and direct communication to members and leadership on several community projects.”
Williams began his career at GreyStone Power in 1984, initially serving as an editorial specialist and communication specialist before his promotion to director of public relations and education in 1989. In 2002, he was promoted to vice president of corporate affairs before ultimately taking on his current role of vice president of marketing and external affairs.
Among his major projects was the rebranding of GreyStone Power from its previous name of Douglas County EMC in 1988 as the co-op began to see significant growth. He helped lead communication efforts during two major storm events – the Blizzard of 1993 and Hurricane Opal, which left 96% of GreyStone’s members without power.
Williams has been instrumental in strengthening legislative ties, both on the state and federal level, to ensure legislative and regulatory policies were in the best interest of GreyStone Power’s members.
In addition to those accomplishments, he helped oversee the construction of a new GreyStone Power headquarters, opened in 2021.
Outside of his GreyStone Power duties, he has served on the Technical College System of Georgia State Board since his appointment by Gov. Nathan Deal in 2013. He has also served as vice chairman of the Go Energy Credit Union Board, chairman of the Douglas County Public Education Trust and chairman of the South Fulton Chamber of Commerce Board.
As Williams retires from GreyStone Power in March 2025, he will be remembered for his dedicated service to GreyStone Power’s members. “It has been an honor and privilege to work at GreyStone Power for over 40 years. I’ve served alongside of a lot of great people in that time, and our work has always been centered around the cooperative mission of making life better for those we serve,” said Williams.
