GreyStone preparing for Tropical Storm Helene

Tropical Storm Helene is expected to become a major hurricane soon before striking Florida with damaging winds and heavy rains. The storm is then expected to make its way to the Atlanta area, and GreyStone is preparing for the storm and possible outages.

The effects of the storm are expected to impact our service area late Thursday night and early Friday morning. Forecasters are predicting between four to eight inches of rain, with substantial winds.

With rain from unrelated sources already hitting GreyStone’s service area on Wednesday morning through tomorrow, the ground will already be saturated before Helene arrives. This further increases the odds of falling trees and limbs, which can cause downed power lines and broken poles.

Linemen and other employees are ready to quickly respond should power outages occur.

To minimize inconvenience, discomfort and danger, prepare ahead of time for the possibility of severe weather. During widespread outages, GreyStone makes repairs to facilities that will return service to the largest number of members, and continues doing so until power is restored to everyone.

If someone in your family needs electronic medical equipment, make sure you have an alternative power supply before the storm hits.

When an outage occurs, it may mean power lines are down. If you encounter downed lines, always assume they are live and extremely dangerous.

GreyStone members who experience an outage can text OUT to 81492. For those members who have opted out of text alerts, send ENROLL to 81492 to sign up. Message and data rates may apply.

Members may also report outages through the GreyStone Power app, at www.greystonepower.com or by calling 866-GREYSTONE (473-9786). If extensive outages occur, the co-op will update members through social media and www.greystonepower.com
